Success of India’s booming IT industry has come with a price: e-waste. According to reports, the country produces more than 2 million tonnes of electronic waste annually. National Association of Software and Services Companies (NASSCOM), the non-profit trade organization of the Indian IT and BPO industries is resolved to make a change.
NASSCOM primarily facilitates business and trade in software and services and encourages research and innovation. In addition to this, the organization is focussed towards the strategic growth and development of the industry, ensuring the continued relevance, importance and trust that people have towards the sectors. Management of e-waste is one such initiative.
The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, under the ‘Digital India Initiative’, partnered with NASSCOM, MAIT, and CEAMA, started the campaign of ‘Awareness Programme on Environmental Hazards of Electronic Waste. We, at Devolv Studio, were honoured to be part of this initiative when we got the chance to design the report.
As the report was extensively detailed, the challenge was in making it engaging and relevant, while retaining the importance of information presented. We tackled it by choosing a bold colour palette and a minimalistic style complemented with visual elements to balance the data. As NASSCOM relentlessly pursues its efforts with a humane perspective, the pictures from this campaign’s workshops in schools and colleges were highlighted. Further, the different cities that were covered under the initiative were differentiated with simple yet impactful design elements, aligned with the overall design of the report.
The final result was a report finely balance between statistical data and empathic awareness of the problem of electronic waste, in keeping with NASSCOM’s execution of the campaign.
